LETTERS TO MARIA > LETTER #1
July 15th, 2005
Dear Maria,
I first began writing this letter out of boredom. Now, it has prolonged into something meaningful besides something to pass the time. I
have no idea where or how to begin a letter to a complete stranger, but I'll start by saying that really don't know how to begin letters
of introduction. It's like when you write something down for a splur of the moment, and you look back at it five minutes later and say
"what the fudge? Am I crazy? Why did I just write that?". This is like me, trying to write a letter to you even though that voice is the
back of my head is poking me, saying "why aren't you asleep yet? You have to work tomorrow, Woman!" So I shall begin by assuming that
you're not a freak like me, considering the fact that you have not been lured into the wonderful fandom that is Kimeru yet.
Who's Kimeru? If you asked me that, I wouldn't have much to say besides "Oh, he's a j-pop singer and he has a wonderful voice." This is
probably one of the few letters where I shall admit to you that Kimeru is not a god; and yes, he does have faults. What I can tell you
is why we love him and his music. Because when you think about it, that's really all that matters, isn't it?
On a bad day, when you pick up your headphone and is reminded of the fact that you (or at least I) am too cheap to afford a surround sound
stereo, you will hear Kimeru's Celtic voice flowing through your ears. Hearing him sing in such a light and refreshing manner makes you
smile. You're reminded of the simple, fun things in life; like Kimeru's truly beautiful voice and how he can express it through the music.
It doesn't matter anymore if your hair is highlighted in a truly horrid shade, or that your cat has just peed on your bed. You know there
are better things to come, because you can hear the serenade in his voice.
On a good day, you hear his voice and wonder how a person like him can make you so happy by just singing. His smooth and up-to-beat style
makes you feel special, because it feels like he's singing exclusively to you. It feels like you can finally take time off and relax.
Sure, there's more to Kimeru than just his voice. Even though the sound of his music is what compels me the most, you'll find that Kimeru
is also a very polite and loving person. When you see a report of him, you're amazed that he can stay so well-mannered. When you view an
interview of you, you laugh of his bright and outgoing gestures. And when you reads "So how are you guys today?" in his daily column, you
wish that you had personally known a sweet person like him. Even without being personal friend of Kimeru, just seeing or reading about
him reminds one that polite and civil people like him can easily light up anyone's day.
It's good to be a Kimeru fan, because at least you know that you're not drawled to him because of materialistic reasons. Sure, Kimeru is
pretty; handsome is the right word for it. But being a fan gives you the ability to see beyond that. Once in awhile, you giggle to
yourself and say "Geeze, he's such a nerd." But he's a sweet and happy nerd who is also understanding of his fans.
You see countless brands of pop culture come and past, but there are rarely someone momentous to remember. I'd like to think that Kimeru
is one of those. Not just because you dig pop music or like flashy outfits. You're a fan because of his lovely voice and outgoing
personality; because that's what an artist really is about, isn't it?
I can't tell you anything about Kimeru's favorite brand of clothing, food, or whatever. Stuff like that never really mattered to me as
opposed to his music. And that's probably all I have to say. I hope this gives you some idea as to the insanity of Kimeru puts us through.
Maybe if you've read this letter closely and saw how much I meant to write more (only to delete them in fear that they might be too much),
you'd understand. And if not. Oh well, at least you got some nice fan letters to read and pass the time by.
.Chiharu.
