LETTERS TO MARIA > LETTER #5
August 5th, 2005
To Maria:
It seems that you've decided to catch the "Kimeru-Fever", as I
affectionately like to call it and it's hard not to. Believe me, I've tried
not to fall for the Siren-like voice and the effeminate looks, but it's
almost impossible. The physical things about the former Fuji Syuusuke actor
are only what draws you in. However, once you get a taste of his
personality, it's impossible to stay away.
When I first saw him, I wanted to say he was too pretty for me to like. That
was only an excuse though. Then, at the end of the first Prince of Tennis
Musical, I heard him sing "You Got Game," which is my favorite PoT theme
song. Then, I learned that he also sang "Make You Free" in Dream Live 1st
(as well as the PoT opening) and that was it. I fell in love with J-rock
singer and that's that.
Now, I know those seem like shallow reasons. So he's feminine-pretty and can
sing. What's the big deal, right? However, I really began to appreciate him
when I saw him off-stage, in the TeniMyu Backstage. Now, don't get me wrong,
my Japanese comprehension is slight and it's hard to keep up with such
advanced speakers, but I didn't need to. Watching his face expressions tell
you everything. He smiles full-heartedly and his laughs are always nice to
hear. He's constantly enjoying himself and praises his fans and friends.
Even when he tries to snap off Nagayan's fingers with a hair straightener in
the Graduation backstage, it was playful with a slight hint of revenge.
His multple talents make him a force to be reckoned with. It's not about
what he does, it's about how he affects the audience, which are full of
energetic fans. The charisma he exerts when he's on-stage makes him hard to
forget, even days after seeing him. The friendly attitude he can't seem to
contain makes him only more appealing to watch because he attracts people.
Whether he knows it or not, Kimeru is definitely someone I've grown to
admire, beyond his idol qualities. Whether he's being a happy little glutton
and eating (even though he's not gaining anything, dammit) or just smiling
for the camera, he's still a person I cherish as a role model.
I'm not sending in this letter to get recognition or for the prize (though
it's a nice bonus), but for the sole reason that it's Kimeru. Those who
don't accept his greatness, whatever excuse it may be, are missing out on a
wonderful singer and person. He just seems to ooze a feeling of happiness
through his fans, even if he's not on-stage. One day, I wish to touch just
one person the way Kimeru has touched millions, though hopefully not in a
flurry of fangirlness (since I've been there and done that). I also hope to
see Kimeru live and feel the full experience of his presence, just once.
Kimeru isn't just someone I've grown to admire or fall hoplessly in
idol-worshippingness. No, he's much more than that. He's an inspiration for
fans everywhere. Even if this letter doesn't make it to your favorite's, I
want you to know that Kimeru will inspire you to touch the stars. He doesn't
sing for himself, but for the elatedness he gets from his fans. If I can
help one more peson find their way to him, then I know that writing this
letter wasn't in vain.
So, Maria, I hope I could convince you that Kimeru isn't someone you just
listen to and forget about. Nope. He's one singer that'll keep you coming
back for more...
Best wishes on your search for Kimeru "Enlightenment,"
Joey
