LETTERS TO MARIA > LETTER #6
August 19th, 2005
1980, a year which - at first sight - is not at all
that important. But if you dare to take a closer look,
then you will notice that a lot of great things began
and also ended this year.
December 8th a great musician left us. John Lennon,
member of the well-known 'Beatles'. He had been shot
down, as all of you might very well know. This had
been his end, the end of an era, of a music that many
of us thought to be great.
Everything has to end someday. But before that
happens, especially music, should have had the chance
to prove itself to the world. It needs a beginning,
open ears and people to show others what they like -
so that the artist and the music can also reach you.
This, I have to admit, is the fact why I am writing
these lines here. I want to tell you something about
an artist, a Japanese one who had been born in 1980.
The year, which had been the end to other great
personalities, had been the year this musician first
laid eyes onto our world. Of course you cannot really
compare these two persons, but they have something in
common: the year in which their lives began and ended.
There is hardly any information you are able to find
when you are looking for the artist 'Kimeru' online.
All we surely know is, that he had been born in
Kumamoto-ken, a peaceful village somewhere in Japan.
Later on he earned some money as a Postman, before he
turned his attention to music.
In the year 2001 he appeared in the Anime scene for
the first time - with the opening for 'Prince of
Tennis' (also known as 'Tennis no Ouji-sama'), a new
upcoming Sport-Anime. Shortly after that, he also
procuded other songs for this Anime, and quickly he
only was accociated with this series, before he also
made songs for the - even more popular Anime -
Yu-Gi-Oh. But that there is much more about him, many
still do not know.
So far he has one Album with songs, who just seem to
brighten up your life. But also others, like 'endless
pain', where - even without any knowledge of the
japanese language - you're able to smile
melancholically.
If you like J-Pop in General, I personally think, that
you're also able to like his style of music. Sometimes
it is fast, rather similar to some songs out of DDR
('Dance Dance Revolution'). But he also can show that
his voice is able to stand up for it alone, for
example in the song 'Chain of Mind', where most of the
time his voice is the leading 'instrument'.
I also know some of my friends, who don't really like
him, mostly because he is too young and due to the
fact that they accociate him with the above mentioned
Anime. Of course, that's where he had his first songs
- but everyone has a beginning. Kimeru here has a
rather tiny one, for hardly anyone ever heard of his
name.
His music is worth more attention. At least that is my
opinion, and I hope you might be willing to give this
artist a chance - a chance to show you his beginning
and maybe you're going to chose to watch his
development. From a Postman to a musician. From a
small unknown to maybe an artist who will be able to
fill a great hall with a listening audience.
It's your choice - but I hope, that I've been able to
give you a small insight into the person and his
music. And maybe I've been able to wake some
curiousity in you and the willingness to, at least,
listen to some songs of him and then to form your own
opinion of him.
